Colombia - Elkin Guzman - Natural
El Puente, Huila
Nestled in the coffee-rich hills of Palestina, Huila, El Puente is more than a processing station—it's a bridge between smallholder farmers and the global specialty coffee community.
Launched in 2018 by Clearpath Coffee, the project was created to connect hundreds of local producers with specialty markets while removing many of the financial and processing barriers traditionally faced by small-scale farmers. Today, El Puente works with more than 200 farming families across the region, creating opportunities for producers to focus on quality while sharing in the value of specialty coffee.
Process: Natural, Huila Style
At El Puente, naturally processed coffees are produced with meticulous attention to consistency and cleanliness.
Process Flow
- Selective harvesting of ripe cherries
- Fresh cherry delivery to the El Puente station
- Careful sorting and quality selection
- Slow drying in large covered drying structures
- Controlled temperature and moisture management
- Resting and conditioning before export
The result is a natural coffee that delivers fruit-forward intensity while maintaining structure and balance.
Varieties: Colombia, Castillo & Caturra
This lot combines some of Colombia's most important varieties:
- Castillo for sweetness and resilience
- Caturra for acidity and balance
- Colombia variety for structure and consistency
Together they create a cup profile that is approachable, expressive, and distinctly Colombian.
Cup Experience: Fruit-Driven & Juicy
El Puente Natural showcases the vibrant side of Colombian coffee.
Expect layers of:
- Blueberry
- Ripe apricot
- Plum
- Red fruits
Supported by a syrupy sweetness, balanced body, and a clean finish that keeps the fruit front and centre.
Why Coffee Nerds Love El Puente
Because it represents a new generation of Colombian coffee.
Instead of each producer carrying the risk of experimental processing alone, El Puente centralises infrastructure and expertise, allowing farmers to access premium markets while maintaining consistent quality. The result is a coffee that feels both community-driven and technically refined.
Think:
Natural sweetness + Colombian clarity + modern processing discipline.
Brewing Mindset
This coffee thrives when brewed to emphasise sweetness and fruit saturation:
- Filter brewing highlights berry and stone fruit complexity
- Espresso delivers syrupy sweetness and jam-like fruit intensity
- Slightly higher extractions unlock additional depth and structure
Expect the cup to become sweeter as it cools.
The Bigger Picture
El Puente demonstrates how specialty coffee can create value beyond the farm gate. By investing in shared infrastructure, processing expertise, and direct market access, the project helps smallholder farmers participate more fully in the specialty coffee economy.
The result is a coffee that is both delicious and meaningful.
Juicy.
Sweet.
Built on connection.
